Getting A Head Start: Ways To Wear Your Hair And Veil To Top Off Your Wedding Day Look

by Mia Bolaris-Forget (Staff Writer)

From leafing through fashion rags and hairstyle mags, not to mentions setting up appointment after appointment with expert stylists, brides frequently put as much effort in finding the right hairstyle as they did in finding Mr. Right. After all, their look will be one that will be captured for posterity.

But, along with hair come other considerations, yes, like makeup, but beyond that, show stopping, toppers; veils that is.

And, experts suggest that when choosing a veil, you start at the top. Besides finding a style that compliments your style and dress, they also recommend experimenting with proper placement so that your crowning glory is sitting pretty.

Lets start by looking at your options, including plastic and wire combs, tiaras, headbands and elastic loops, and Velcro accessories. While the option is ultimately yours, stylists will generally have a definite preference, depending on the hairstyle you choose. And, in most cases, where a comb is the base of choice, most stylists will opt for wire over plastic, since wire combs tend to be sturdier and generally adhere to your head/hair more securely and with less bulk. It can also be further secured simply and easily just by adding a few more bobby pins, not the case with big, bulky, and often slippery plastic combs. Plus, it can be more easily removed sans messing up your carefully coiffed “do”.

Wire combs are highly recommended for a hint of understated elegance with a modern twist. They are best for securing veils to the top or back of the head, just under the updo.

Tiaras, note the pros, hold a special appeal for the “Princess Bride” whose all about the glam and grandeur of it all. And, it can be worn alone or in conjunction with the veil of your choice.

The appeal of embellished headbands or “simple” elastic loops are to the more contemporary, “minimalist” bride, who often opts for that “natural” look. Great for creating a “rad” retro look or, for placing around a bun. And, it allows the stylists to harmonize the veil with the style of your hair.

Last but not least modern brides may want to take advantage of “modern technology” and opt for a simple yet sophisticated Velcro attachment, to be place inside a clip, headband, hat, elastic loop, or any other headpiece. And, if you choose to party without it, it’s quite easy to remove after the “I Dos”.

Remember, placement can make a significant difference. Add drama to your bridal dress code by choosing a tiara or wearing a heavily embellished comb on top of your head. Choose a delicate yet dazzling hair pin or accessory to clip along side your ear for a sassy yet sophisticated and “nostalgic” look, or go fantastically “funkadelic” by choosing a clip or comp combined with a large silk florals secured to the bottom of your hairline or updo, and a long sweeping, whimsically feminine lace veil.
